- Install the MediaPlayerConnectivity Firefox extension. If VLC is correctly installed, it should auto-identify it.
- Open the page in Firefox (example).
- Click the empty video placeholder with the icon. VLC should start and begin playing.
- Select the View -> Stream and Media Info menu option. If it's a regular HTTP link, copy the contents of the "URI" text box back to the browser address bar, then download it as a regular file.
- If it's using some streaming service, VLC can save the file being streamed to the local file system. To do this, select File -> Open Network Stream, paste in the URL, check the Stream/Save checkbox and press Settings. Check the File checkbox and enter the file name; also select the suitable encapsulation method. If you want the stream to be played while you're saving it, check the Play locally checkbox.
